3 kids dead, 1 injured in train accident in Punjab’s Kirtarpur Sahib

Three children died and one was injured after a train ran over them in Punjab’s Kiratpur Sahib on Sunday. Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Jagjit Singh told ANI that the children were on the tracks to eat berries off some trees and did not realise that a train was approaching them.

He said that two children died on the spot and another died on the way to the hospital. The fourth one is receiving treatment at the hospital.

The accident took place on the Lohand railway bridge over the Sutlej River. The children were on the tracks as the train going from Saharanpur to Himachal Pradesh arrived near Kiratpur Sahib.

The train halted after the accident and the injured children were taken to the Civil Hospital in Anandpur Sahib but one died on the way.

Following the incident, former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amrinder Singh took to Twitter to share his condolences and urged the state government to provide “appropriate compensation” to the families of the deceased.
