The series tells the classic riches-to-rags story of Bae, a glamorous fashionista who makes a reckless decision and finds herself cast out of her luxurious life, suddenly left to navigate the real world. Instead of giving up, Bae takes charge of her new reality, landing an internship at a major news channel, only to get swept into one of the nation’s biggest scandals.
Though the trailer and promotional material build excitement, they don’t fully capture the depth and charm of the final product. The story not only has depth and clear purpose, but it also carries an enormous amount of heart. From the very first episode to the finale, the beautifully written script hooks you in. Three cheers for the writing team! The show discusses themes that have been explored before, yet it remains fresh and relevant, thanks to its witty one-liners and relatable dialogues. Ananya Panday is the heart of Call Me Bae, delivering her finest performance to date. She fits the role perfectly, so much so that it feels like she’s playing herself. Panday brings Bae to life with charm, confidence, and vulnerability, nailing every nuance of the character. Her portrayal makes you root for Bae through all her highs and lows. The “sister code gang,” played by Niharika Dutt and Muskaan Jaferi, brilliantly complements Ananya’s performance, adding layers of friendship and camaraderie to the story. Vir Das’s meatier role shines with his trademark humor, while Gurfateh Pirzada’s calm and understated presence adds balance. Special appearances by Sayani Gupta and Karishma Tanna bring an extra spark to the series, while Vihaan Samrat and Mini Mathur play their parts well within limited screen time.
