Leadership Transition Marks New Growth Chapter for QNZ Following India–New Zealand Free Trade Agreement

Auckland, New Zealand – Quality New Zealand (QNZ) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Nitin Shankar Nagrale as its new Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO), marking a significant milestone in the company’s long-term leadership succession strategy and its ambitions for accelerated global growth.

Dr. Nagrale becomes only the second Group CEO in QNZ’s history and assumes the role after more than fourteen years of distinguished service with the organization. As QNZ’s first employee, he has played a pivotal role in building the company from its formative years into a diversified international enterprise with a strong presence across education, food, agriculture, innovation, and international trade.

Throughout his tenure, Dr. Nagrale has demonstrated exceptional leadership, operational excellence, and strategic vision. He has been instrumental in expanding QNZ’s footprint in India, one of the company’s most important markets, while successfully guiding teams through challenging periods including the COVID-19 pandemic and rapidly evolving international trade environments.

His appointment follows a carefully planned and well-executed succession process designed to ensure leadership continuity while positioning QNZ to capitalize on emerging opportunities created by the recently signed India–New Zealand Free Trade Agreement.

Supporting Dr. Nagrale in this leadership structure, Ms. Nettles Lamont will assume an enhanced role as Executive Chair, based in New Zealand. Having served as Chair of the Board for more than seven years, Lamont brings extensive governance expertise, financial acumen, and strategic oversight that will continue to strengthen the company’s growth trajectory.

As part of this transition, Geoff Allott will step away from his Executive Director responsibilities. Importantly, there will be no change to the company’s governance framework or shareholding structure, and Allott will continue to serve as a Director on the QNZ Board.

Leadership Reflections

Commenting on the appointment, Geoff Allott, Director of QNZ and former Executive Director, said:

“QNZ is in a strong position, supported by a successful recent capital raise and the positive opportunities emerging from the India–New Zealand Free Trade Agreement. I am immensely proud to see Dr. Nitin Nagrale appointed as Group CEO following a well-orchestrated succession plan. Nitin has been central to the development and success of the business over many years and is exceptionally well positioned to lead the Company into its next phase of growth. I am equally delighted that he will be supported by Nettles Lamont, whose leadership and financial expertise provide an important complement to the executive team.”

Nettles Lamont, Executive Chair, added:

“We are focused on the transformational opportunities created by the newly signed Free Trade Agreement in our strategically important Indian market. QNZ is uniquely positioned to connect New Zealand innovation, products, and expertise with one of the world’s fastest-growing economies. India continues to experience significant growth in affluence and consumer demand, and our established market reach creates tremendous opportunities for New Zealand businesses and exporters.”

Expressing his gratitude, Dr. Nitin Shankar Nagrale, Group CEO, said:

“I am deeply grateful to Geoff, Nettles, the Board, our shareholders, partners, and the entire QNZ family for their trust and confidence in me. Having been part of QNZ since its inception, this appointment represents not only a professional milestone but also a responsibility that I embrace with humility and determination.

The India–New Zealand Free Trade Agreement opens a new chapter of opportunity, and with India’s remarkable growth trajectory, we are entering one of the most exciting periods in the company’s history. Together with our leadership team, employees, partners, and stakeholders, I look forward to accelerating innovation, expanding our global footprint, and creating long-term value for our shareholders and customers.”

Looking Ahead

Under the new leadership structure, QNZ will continue to strengthen its position as a bridge between New Zealand and global markets, particularly India, while pursuing strategic growth opportunities across education, agribusiness, tourism, food exports, technology, innovation, and workforce development.

The Board believes that the combination of Dr. Nagrale’s operational leadership, Lamont’s governance expertise, and Allott’s continued board involvement provides the ideal platform for QNZ’s next phase of expansion and long-term value creation.
